| Canyon Sports was started in 1990 as a home-based business.
We primarily sold firearms and accessories to organizations for their
dinners and auctions and to our friends and co-workers.
In 1996 we needed to either move our business into a retail location or
give up our Federal Firearms License. We took a small amount of money and
borrowed all our friends rifles and opened our tiny shop on Pacheco
Boulevard in December. At that time Canyon Sports became a full-time
business for us.

In 1997 we were already outgrowing our 350 square-foot space and
started thinking about opening an indoor shooting facility. By late 1998
we had found a space and started the process of getting a use permit from
the City of Martinez. After months of trying, and despite unanimous
approval by the Planning Commission, we were denied our application by the
City Council in September of 1999.
However, we still needed more space, so we changed our plans, scaled
down our space requirements and went to work remodeling a 2400 square foot
space on Howe Road. In April of 2000 we opened our doors at the new
location.
